Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, is trying to take over Gotham’s criminal underworld
Aside from a Bat-Signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got our Robert Pattinson cameo in “The Penguin.” This short film from IMDb tries to answer: Where the hell was Batman?. Colin Farrell fought tooth and nail to get his version of The Penguin to smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but he failed.

However, in his own series, the character is portrayed as an occasional tobacco user, preferring cigars. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros.

logo. The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman , and I imagine those who haven’t seen the latter will be a little confused.
It also captures the film’s aesthetic and grim tone nicely, though the series has many more moments of sly levity than the film itself
But I watched The Batman a while ago, and the series did an admirable job of quickly bringing me back to where the film left off without getting bogged down in a didactic recap. As in The Batman , Colin Farrell did an excellent job of portraying the Penguin as a stereotypical mafia “man on the street”: uncouth, profane, volatile, and quick to violence; but also quick, cunning, and able to read people.
But so far, it’s off to a great start
The character may have absolutely nothing in common with the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right. I have my doubts about whether the series will give the Penguin a teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if the Penguin’s machinations will be enough to sustain a full season.
